"The title of the album is supposed to say two things: I've had some of these songs for a while, and its like the weather, when rain or snow is waiting to come down. Its a release in a way. I also think people expect me to be this alternative gram-rocker. It's about things coming down to being mote about the songs, the sound and the melodies." - James Iha

James Iha, guitarist with Chicago's Smashing Pumpkins, will release his debut album on February 9th through Hut Recordings.'Let It Come Down" will come as a surprise to many, for with the help of producer Jim Scott (who's previously worked with Tom Petty and Robbie Robertson), Iha has crafted an album of engaging and tantalising songs.
Over the years, Iha has been working on his own songs as a reaction to the distorted, electric, metal-saturated guitar of the Pumpkins. In James words 'I tried to make the songs believable and able to stand up with just my voice and an acoustic guitar.
"Let It Come Down" was recorded in Iha's home studio in Chicago. His cohorts include: Fountains of Wayne's Adam Schlesinger (also Iha's partner in Scratchie Records) playing piano; pedal steel and lap steel virtuoso Greg Leisr (k.d. lang, Mathew Sweet); Neal Casal (backing vocals, electric guitar); John Ginty
(Hammond &, melodical; and finally not forgetting drummer Matt Walker (former Pumpkins touring drummer) and Matt's bass playing brother, Solomon Snyder.
The album brings to mind the timeless majesty of the likes of Jackson Browns, C.S.N & Y, Gram Parsons or The Band without sounding retro or stylised. Now go see yourself.
The album's release will be followed by a single "Be Strong Now" which is released on February 23rd.
