Before the Pumpkins arrived on stage. The pre-concert was full of crappy Jazz music. The Pumpkins came on the stage on time, 9.30pm. The first on-time concert i've heard of in Rome! The Pumpkins started with a rock-afied version of 'To Sheila'. It wasn't very loud. But it still was a wicked version of it. 'Tear' was the first song that got the crowd excited. Using guitars instead of synthasizers. Giving 'Tear' a extra introduction, before the drums. Making it sound loads better than it normally does. The songs went on, being loud and very cool. 'Ava Adora' was the only song nearly the whole of the crowd knew. The crowd sung along. Between Ava Adore and Daphne Descends, Billy said: 'That song was about Italy. Here's and other song about Italian'. He mad lots of pointless comments. After that, they moved onto the acustic/electric guitars, where Billy, James and D'Arcy played the blues for 2 minutes for a laugh, it was really well played, too. I can't remember what song they played after the blues. The started the Mellon Collie songs with 'Tonight, Tonight'. The drums weren't nearly as good as the album version. But it still got the crowd rocking again. Every Mellon Collie song, the crowd basically knew the words. After 'Tonight, Tonight' came 'Stumbeline'. After that, Billy chucked his bottle of water into the crowd, and left the three drummers doing a bloody amazing display that lasted for around 3 minutes. The drums where still going when Billy got back on stage and shouted into the mic, 'The world is a vampire'. Billy seemed really pissed off. The crowd went wild. Although the Billy forgot most the lyrics, it was an experience. The album version will always be second class, now! The rest of the songs after Bullet till the encour are a blur, apart from 'For Martha'. Which lasted around 10 minutes. The Pumpkins went off for 4 minutes. Waited for the crowd to make enough noise to go back on stage. When they did come back on stage, Billy talked to the crowd for a few minutes. He said such things as: 'You know we've been on this European tour? Well, the way we figure it, who ever screams the loudest during the concert will win the World Cup'. And 'We love Italy, and Italian people. We come from America, everybodies dead in the head over there', the whole crowd cheared at that! They played '1979' on guitars, which sounded wicked. After 1979, they played 'Blank Page' and an other song, i had never heard before called 'Radio'. Radio lasted around 20 minutes, the last 5 with Billy and James just messing around on the guitars, and retuning them. During Radio, Billy told the worst joke known to man: 'Anybody know why there are no rabbit's in Hawaii? It's because they don't know how to surf'. The songs that got the crowd going where: Tear, Ava Adore, Tonight, Tonight, Bullet, and 1979. |
