Yesterday, I could see the Smashing Pumpkins for the first time in my life. Their show took place at legendary "Budohkan" where Cheap Trick did their gig just 20 years ago.Of course, band members knows that. Before the encore, D'arcy told that it's special for them to play there and then, they started to play Cheap Trick cover "I Want You To Want Me" instead of Joy Division cover "Transmission". Their appearance is pretty much same as previous reviews mentioned.Besides band members, there were 3 percussionists and 1 keyboardist.I was surprised at Mr.Aronoff's drum play. His technic and sound was great and reminded me of Jimmy. It is said that Japanese fan just stand and stare at performer during show without active response, but that was not true last night. The Smashing Pumpkins and support members succeeded in making audience excited, especially when playing "Ava Adore" and "1979".I could feel the hall shaking. I'm sure that's not earthquake. They played totally 2 hours. During the show, Billy talked about World Cup soccer and joked James would play in a Japanese soccer team someday. When leaving, Billy came down to audience and had contact with many fans. According to other reviews, the sound and arrange is very different and much greater than CD on this tour.I would say it's totally true. SP rules! |
