The show started with a band called "Queens of the stone age", whose retro cliche alternative rock references the stone age of the 90's to an over done and annoying form of unorigionality. The vocalist left much to be desired in voice but made up for his weak untrained efforts with the power of his words. What's appealing to me in a band is their ability to make a point through their words and attempt to provide a CREATIVE emotion provocing experience through song. "The Queens of the stone age" I believe had the right formula for lyrical creativity but the guitar, bass, sitar, drums, and organ (not to mention the weak volcals) just were not enough to pull it off. This band has potential, but were placed in such a place that the pumpkins had an easy easy time following this act. Depending on your opinions, they were too early or too late in their career to "make it" in my eyes. The era of grunge is breathing its last breath if not has fizzled out already, but either way the Queens of the stone age need to polish up and organize themselves to the professional musical world, or end up another no hit wonders.

When the pumpkins took the stage, the band was shrouded in black with the god-light behind billy. The first song was I am One. A blast from the past showing that the unity from the pumpkins was as strong now as it had been when this song was new. The first sight of Jimmy yielded the shortest hair ive seen on him yet and a settling right into the place where he's been absent from these past couple of years. The energy from the band was minimal at first during which they introduced new material but picked up later when they played Today, Muzzle and Soma. For most of the songs played, the band was bathed in blue and purple light only occasionally to be lit up into a nova of yellow and red. The God-Light behind billy droned for most of the concert and gave a magnificent accent to his being, with beams streaming from his head and from the neck of his guitar. The term God-Light is pretty much self explanitory and accurate. The concert was short and ended with only one enchore. Afterward the band departed from the venue in two minivans. White for james and D'arcy and Red for Jimmy and Billy.

Security was tight and strict concerning cameras and audio but my girlfriend and I managed to get many picturers and a taped copy of the show. So all in all it was an allright concert, but the tour shirts sucked, the prices sucked, the lighting sucked, half the songs i didnt know because they were new. The good points were that there was not one bad seat in the place. The version of ava adore was tight as were a few of the new songs, which cause me to look forward to the new album. Jimmy's presence was minimal and unobvious. For as hyped as it had been there was little to-do about his return. The conversation from the band to the audience was minimal but Billy, James and D'arcy all took turns talking. Tickets outside the venue were being scalped for as much as $120.00 each and with the setting sun and a pumpkins concert, Billy couldnt be more right when he said "we only cme out at night", unless he was talking about the freaks, which were in abundance.. ya-hoo..

My girlfriend was disontented as commented that the pumpkins lacked energy and involvment in the show and were somewhat ungrateful for once again getting their vehicles and heading for points unknown without posing for one photograph to the few fans waiting outside for them, or signing one autograph.. or even making a passing appearence.

Quote from Kelly: "what a shitty way to end a shitty week."
