Review of the Smashing Pumpkins show in Brazil at Metropolitan (Rio de Janeiro)

Hi people, first of all forgive me for my english! :-)

I just went into the Smashing Pumpkins show in Metropolitan last night (14 August 1998) and I have to say that was pretty cool!! The show started with "To Sheila" with Billy Corgan wearing a weird hat. (In that music I was fighting with the securities that doesn't wanted to let me in to be in front of stage. I said to a big guy next to me to won't stop pushing the security bars and them everyone was pushing! :-) So I went to the first row (2 meters betwenn D'arcy and Billy) and they were playing "Tear" with a long cool solo. After that it was PUG (the best song of the concert in my opinion cause that music is pretty cool!) They played "Perfect" and "Crestfallen". Crestfallen was the best part of the show because D'arcy was playing and looking to me!! (I'm not kidding!) She smile for me :-) (I love her, hehe) "Ava Adore" was cool (as ever) but that stupid piano solo sucked... The solo had nothing to do with Ava Adore. I don't like that pianist anyway... Billy Corgan was throwing his picks to us, I slaped one but I didn't catched (DAMMIT!!!) "Stumbleine" and "Zero" were both acoustics. Zero was a improvisation with acoustics guitars... And them there was a drums solo. It is funny because 3 drummers can't replace Jimmy Chamberlin! Jimmy I miss you!!! While the Keneth man was kicking out his drums Billy and D'arcy were talking behind the stage and I was watching it and yelling to they to come back! Well, I guess that you all have already heard the new version of "Bullet With Butterfly Wings"! ;-) "Tonight, Tonight" was a little bit of country music... "Blank Page" was kewl, Billy was alone at stage with the piano man. It was beatiful! "Thru the Eyes of Ruby" (My favourite "Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness" song) was great! No distorted guitars! "Shame" was a part of the concert to wonder... Billy did awesome solos at the end. (Solos are cool! :-) For the last song (???) they played "For Martha" (My favourite "Adore" song) was really great but after finishing the song he dropped his guitar and said goodbye... Of course we're thought they would come back for more but they didn't! :~( Nobody leave until the Metropolitan guys started to turining of all the amps, pedals... That was the worst part of the show... I've listened to the show in Atlanta in a week ago that was broadcasted live on the Internet and the show was 2:20 long! This show in Rio de Janeiro was not even 2 hours... :-(

Most people of the brazilians hated the show cause they are stupid... They were expecting to see "Today", "Rocket", "Disarm" and they got disapointed because It was an "ADORE" concert. I (as a true Smashing Pumpkins fan) loved the show but Billy Corgan doesn't wanted to play in that day... The concert was supossed to have a "BIS" (Go to stage again) but doesn't had. It was the second Smashing Pumpkins concert in Rio de Janeiro. The first was in 26 January in 1996. It was pretty rocking!!! (But once more, It was about 1:15 long) (You guys probably know what I'm talking because this show is for sale in anywhere! :-)

Here is the setlist:
1- To Sheila
2- Tear
3- Pug (the best song of the show)
4- Perfect
5- Crestfallen
6- Ava Adore
7- Stumbleine (version with bass, drums and guitars)
8- Zero (accoustic) (the people was yelling "ZERO, ZERO, ZERO...")
9- Bullet With Butterfly Wings
10- Tonight, Tonight
11- Blank Page
12- Thru the Eyes of Ruby
13- Shame
14- For Martha

It was missing songs like "Annie Dog", "Once Upon a Time", "Behold! The Nightmare", "Transmission", "Daphne Descends", 1979...

Thanks for reading! :-)
