Pa Pumpkin Stars In Catherine Video Smashing Pumpkins bassist D`arcy has persuaded her sister and father to guest in the hot new video from Chicago band Catherine, who feature her hubbie Kerry Brown on drums. "We shot the video in two days on their farm, and basically we just got in anyone who was around." says Catherine frontman Mark Rew, "And D`arcy persuded her sister and dad to appear." The vid is for the song `Whisper`, which recently turned up on the soundtrack for acclaimed horror movie ` Scream`. And in a strange-but-true twist, the guy who ended up directing the video was Jonathan Craven, and his dad is none other than Wes Craven, who directed `Scream`! "It was just coincidence," insists Rew. "Jonathan`s ideas just seemed to fit the song. The fact that his father is Wes Craven had nothing to do with our choice!" `Whisper` will be released as single
by Dragnet on September 1. This followers live shows from the band at:
London Highbury Garage August 22, Reading Festival second stage 24, London
LA2 26 (supporting Veruca Salt).

Thanks to David Cole and Kerrang Hole In Billy's Plan The collaboration of Billy Corgan and Courtney Love on Hole's next album seems to have fizzled. Originally, the word was that the band itself would produce the record, with Corgan as the man behind the curtain, overseeing the entire thing. That, it turns out, will not be the case. In fact, Courtney recently told MTV that she's brought in Michael Beinhorn, best known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne, Soundgarden, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, to do most of the hands-on producing. But the split between Billy and Courtney, if it can be called that, seems to be amicable, and it looks as though Corgan will still have his name attached to the album--although it's unclear what his title will be. And anyway, he's found other outrageous friends besides Courtney and her brood to spend time with. After all, he was seen hanging with Dennis Rodman before and after most of last week's N.B.A. Finals games. PUMPKINS STAR WORKS FOR 'CHEAP'! - Corgan joins Trent Reznor on Cheap Trick 'celebrity fan' list. SMASHING PUMPKINS mainman Billy Corgan is all set to work on a major project with his heroes Cheap Trick. Corgan recently jammed onstage with the legendary US pop-rockers in Chicago, and has now suggested a future collaboration. "Yeah, Billy wants to work with us, and we want to work with him," Cheap Trick guitarist Rick Nielsen told Kerrang!. "In fact, he has already come up with a few ideas, and as soon as his schedule and ours allow it, we will get together on a project." And the Illinois veterans - long-time heroes of Brit stars Terrorvision and The Wildhearts - will almost certainly be working with top alternative producer Steve Albini on a future record. It will be the second time the two parties have teamed up. "We did a one-oft single with him earlier this year for the Sub Pop label, which turned out to be really cool," says Nielsen. "In fact, it's now the biggest selling vinyl single in the label's history. And we have talked to Steve -who is a big fan of ours - about doing another record." Cheap Trick are currently touring the States in support of the Stone Temple Pilots, at the personal request of STP singer Scott Weiland and the rest of the band. And they're attracting some unlikely fans... "Trent Reznor from Nine Inch Nails turned up to see us in New Orleans the other night, and he told us that he's a big Cheap Trick fan. Who knows, maybe we'll get to work with him too!" Cheap Trick release the single 'Say Goodbye' through Red Ant on June 23. Their self-titled new album follows a week later. And watch out for UK dates later this year, possibly with one of the biggest Britrock names around. We'll keep you posted... ... AND NOW BILLY'S MATES COME OUT FOR RICK BILLY CORGAN plus members at Hole and Bad Religion are all involved in the upcoming solo album from veteran pop rocker Rick Ocasek. Ocasek came to prominence in the ‘70s with Boston band The Cars. But in recent years he's gained a solid reputation as a producer marking with bands like the Bad Brains and Hate. Now his new album. titled 'Troublizing'. is set to feature tap '90s musicians such as Hole bassist Melissa Ant Der Maur. Bad Religion guitarist Brian Baker, Nada Surf drummer Ira Elliot and Filter/Pumpkins drummer Malt Walker. Five at the tracks an the album have been produced by busy Pumpkins mainman Billy Corgan in New York. The songs in question are titled 'Crashland Consequence'. 'Situation', 'Fix on You'. 'Asia Minor' and 'People We Know'. No news yet on which label will release 'Troublizing'. Source of info Kerrang Magazine 31st May 1997
