 THE
SMASHING PUMPKINS have been asked to write the theme song for the new Batman
film. The Pumpkins are believed to be currently working on the title track
for the film - called Batman & Robin - which is expected to be released
in June. The film, the fourth in the series, will star ER actor George
Clooney in the title role with Chris O'Donnell returning as Robin. It will
also feature Arnold Schwarzenegger as Mr Freeze, Uma Thurman as Poison
Ivy and Alicia Silverstone as Batgirl. Billy Corgan has asked director
Joel Schumacher to direct the video for the song - which will probably
be released as a single - and hopes to feature himself and other Pumpkin
stalwarts, James Iha and D'Arcy dressed up as characters from the film.
A source close to the band said Corgan wants the song's video to be like
a "mini-movie".
